Annie Walter's Beaded Bags Shine at Night Sky Exhibition

Annie Walter, a Melbourne/Naarm-based illustrator and designer, has created two intricate beaded bags for her upcoming exhibition Night Sky, co-presented with Miriam Montgomery. The smaller bag began last winter, the larger in March, and both were hand-beaded during road trips through South Australia and Tasmania, and while recovering from hand surgery. Inspired by Paula Votteler's Instagram work and the night sky theme, the bags incorporate hundreds of beads and a detachable ceramic charm. Walter's practice spans digital illustration, painting, ceramics, and crafts, often inspired by nature. Night Sky runs June 24–28 at Sydney Street Gallery in Marrickville, Sydney/Warrane, featuring textiles, paintings, ceramics, and woodwork. Walter's next project uses vintage yellow beads from Adelaide/Tarntanya to create a retro sunshine-inspired bag.
