Annemirl Bauer and Bärbel Bohley Exhibition at Galerie im Turm and MINSK
An exhibition in Berlin brings together two East German artists and activists, Annemirl Bauer and Bärbel Bohley, who openly challenged the GDR system and faced state conflict. Bärbel Bohley's drawings and graphics, rarely shown during the GDR era, are displayed at Galerie im Turm, which from 1965 served as a prominent exhibition space for the Verband Bildender Künstler der DDR (VBK). A work by Bohley is also included in Annemirl Bauer's show at MINSK. The author notes that Bohley's images feel harsh, while Bauer's work is more playful and colorful, including protests against male dominance. The exhibition is highlighted in the Freitag newsletter 'Endlich Freitag!' by Maxi Leinkauf, which also covers French student protests, a Haaretz report on Israeli soldiers, a Saxony-Anhalt political rumor, and theater by Florentina Holzinger and Rimini Protokoll at the Volksbühne. Additionally, a biography of Spiegel founder Rudolf Augstein by Martin Doerry and Hauke Janssen is recommended.
