Anne Mariën's Abstract Atmospheres: Intuition, Nature, and the Unpaintable

Anne Mariën, an abstract painter from Mechelen, Belgium, creates emotionally resonant compositions that suggest natural elements without depicting them directly. Her serious artistic pursuit commenced in 2000 under the guidance of Belgian artist Frans Croes at his Zennegat studio, where she produced her initial abstract triptych. Following this, she enrolled at the Mechelen Art Academy. Mariën's artwork features dynamic colors and fluid textures, drawing inspiration from her travels to various countries, including Norway, Ireland, Greece, and Vietnam, among others. In 2024, curator Jan Van Woensel began working with her, describing her pieces for a 2025 exhibition in Monaco as "positive-abstract with feminine energy." Their collaboration has resulted in exhibitions across cities like Antwerp, New York, and Paris, and a retrospective monograph is anticipated in winter 2026.
