Anne Loch's Monumental Paintings at Zentrum Paul Klee

The Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern will host a major solo exhibition of Anne Loch (1946-2014) from July 18 to September 20, 2026. The show, titled 'Anne Loch. Malerei: Na und?', features around eighty works, including monumental paintings of flowers, animals, and landscapes. Loch began her career in 1980s Cologne alongside Rosemarie Trockel, Jenny Holzer, and Cindy Sherman, represented by Galerie Monika Sprüth. In 1988 she withdrew to Thusis, Switzerland, cutting ties with the art world but producing over 1,400 paintings, works on paper, and photographs. Her subjects—flowers, sheep, moths, peonies, crows—are enlarged to imposing scales, losing realism through precise planning based on preparatory photographs. She excluded human figures and social commentary, focusing on painting as an autonomous act. Her estate is held in Bern by André Born and Peter Spahr, who cared for her after a cancer diagnosis.
