Anne Imhof's 'Citizen' Opens at Sprüth Magers London

Anne Imhof's new exhibition 'Citizen' is now on view at Sprüth Magers in London, running until 1 August 2026. The German artist and musician discusses themes of death, female pleasure, the danse macabre, and ballet, tracing connections from her Golden Lion-winning 'Faust' at the 2017 Venice Biennale to her collaboration with American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Devon Teuscher. The exhibition features scratched Wave paintings, crowd barriers repurposed from her monumental 'DOOM' at New York's Park Avenue Armory, and bronze relief sculptures. Imhof explores the tension between permanence and impermanence, using materials like steel and glass. The show includes works titled after ballet mimes from 'Swan Lake', such as 'there is a lake of my mother's tears' and 'you are a queen, so I bow to you'.
