Anne Imhof's 'Citizen' at Sprüth Magers London

German visual artist Anne Imhof, who divides her time between Berlin and New York, will showcase her exhibition 'Citizen' at Sprüth Magers in London from June 5 to August 1, 2026. This exhibition will include new figurative oil paintings featuring scratches, a film inspired by her performance 'Doom', site-specific sculptures accompanied by drawings, and bronze reliefs illustrating intimate moments between women. Imhof's artistic practice encompasses performance, sculpture, music, painting, choreography, and installation, frequently delving into themes of control, vulnerability, and consumer culture. Her performances, including 'Faust' at the 2017 Venice Biennale, where she received the Golden Lion, and 'Natures Mortes' at Palais de Tokyo in 2021, are characterized by their haunting atmosphere and expressionless performers. Recently, she has begun to create more permanent works, such as her inaugural outdoor sculpture 'Steelbath' (2025) at the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in Portugal. The 'Citizen' exhibition merges abstract and figurative elements, furthering her investigation into movement and discipline.
