Anna Sheffield's sculptural objects bridge jewellery and fine art in Taos

Jewellery designer Anna Sheffield has created a new series of uncategorizable objects—vessels, bells, bowls, and carved forms—handcrafted in her Taos, New Mexico studio. The works, which she simply calls 'objects', blend ancient and contemporary aesthetics and are designed to invite presence and reflection. Sheffield, who studied sculpture in San Francisco before launching her 'Bing Bang' line in New York in 2002, describes the pieces as 'witchy Carl Auböck', referencing the Austrian designer. Her career includes collaborations with Marc Jacobs and Target, and in 2009 she started her eponymous fine jewellery collection. During the pandemic, a residency at Pocoapoco in Oaxaca prompted her to return to sculpting, and she relocated from New York to Taos, where she grew up. The move reconnected her with the landscape and materials like quartz, turquoise, copper, and volcanic stone. The new objects carry the precision of jewellery but follow a logic shaped by earth and intuition, inviting materials once reserved for life's largest ceremonies into daily rituals.
