Anna Onesti's Mulberry Paper Kites and Diaries at Grottaferrata Abbey for GEP 2026

exhibition · 2026-09-22

The Biblioteca Statale del Monumento Nazionale di Grottaferrata presents 'Anna Onesti – Nuovi Cieli, Nuove Carte', opening during the Giornate Europee del Patrimonio on 26–27 September 2026. The exhibition, held in the Loggia Cinquecentesca and the Biblioteca's Sala Conferenze, features works on paper made from mulberry tree bark, including kites constructed with painted mulberry paper, bamboo sticks and cotton threads based on traditional Korean (pangp'ae-yŏn shield kite) and Japanese (edo rectangular kite) types. Onesti also shows her books and diaries, plus a kite and bird-flight-inspired installation. The 'Con Grazia' series honours Grazia Marchianò, who in 2023 donated two paintings by her father Giuseppe Marchianò and Albanian studies texts to the Biblioteca; a year earlier she gave her husband Elémire Zolla's library to Accademia Vivarium Novum at Villa Falconieri, Frascati. The event also showcases the Biblioteca's contemporary art collection, conceived by Onesti during her tenure as Funzionario Restauratore Conservatore until 2022. The show remains on view until 30 October 2026, Monday to Friday 9:30–13:00, with free entry and no reservation; guided visits run 26–27 September 10:00–14:00. The title references Paolo Di Paolo's 2004 story collection 'Nuovi Cieli, Nuove Carte' (Empiria; new edition Giulio Perrone Editore, 2025).
