Anna De Castro Barbosa's 'Il Quiproquo' Turns French Place into a Perceptual Maze

At French Place in Milan, Anna De Castro Barbosa presents 'Il Quiproquo,' an exhibition that prioritizes movement over observation. The show, developed during the artist's residency at the gallery, uses screens, metal surfaces, and fans to create thresholds, interferences, and partial views. Central to the installation is the folding screen, used as an ambiguous structure that both separates and invites passage. De Castro Barbosa works with steel, sterile plexiglass, and medical instruments, stripping them of their original functions to become objects of uncertain identity. The visitor must constantly shift position to catch details and openings; no vision is definitive, always partial and temporary. The exhibition space becomes a theatrical, active structure where visitors become extras in the construction of infinite combinations. The title 'Il Quiproquo' refers to the misunderstanding inherent in perception: works seem on the verge of revealing themselves but never do definitively. Born in Montpellier in 1995, the artist lives and works between Paris and Aubervilliers, having studied at the Sorbonne and the Beaux-Arts de Nantes.
