Anker Bak and Jonas Sølberg launch Dignity Design at 3 Days of Design

During the 3 Days of Design event in Copenhagen, furniture designer Anker Bak and creative strategist Jonas Sølberg introduced Dignity Design, a new initiative aimed at developing products, spaces, and rituals for individuals facing vulnerable circumstances. The exhibition, named The Design We Hide Away, showcased 15 creations by Bak, such as a lightweight coffin, an aesthetically pleasing pill box, walking aids including a cane that transforms into a seat, a bathing stool, a funeral urn inspired by Japanese lanterns, and a circular shelf called Cyklus. Notable contributors like actor Claes Bang and Anne-Louise Sommer, director of Designmuseum Danmark, chose items that reflect their perspectives on life, death, and meaning. The platform's manifesto emphasizes its goal of fostering a movement that reconsiders how design influences dignity and engagement, seeking collaboration from foundations, research entities, industry, and social practice. Bak's extensive 15-year career includes collaborations with Karimoku, OneCollection, and Fredahl Rydéns, focusing on themes of aging, loss, and evolving abilities.
