Animism in Contemporary African Art Explored in Artist Talk with Thiémoko Claude Diarra

On Saturday, 25 April, from 3–3:50 PM, the Tribune will host an artist talk centered on animism within modern African art. The event will feature Thiémoko Claude Diarra, represented by Christophe Person; Julien Volper, a historian from the Royal Museum for Central Africa; and Sitor Senghor, the artistic director of AKAA. Diarra's work involves earth pigments and bogolan, a traditional Malian fabric, to delve into themes of memory and territory. Volper, who holds a PhD from the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, is an expert in African art. Senghor, previously an investment banker, led the Paris gallery Orbis Pictus until 2024 and has curated various exhibitions. The conversation will address animism's significance in ecological challenges and ancestral heritage, conducted in French.
