Angel Hui and Kingsley Ng to Represent Hong Kong at 2026 Venice Biennale

Representing Hong Kong at the 61st Venice Biennale, which will take place from 9 May to 22 November 2026, are Angel Hui and Kingsley Ng. Their pavilion is situated in the Arsenale. Hui intends to create a site-specific piece utilizing everyday objects from Hong Kong, traditional craftsmanship, and elements of light and shadow, drawing inspiration from the often-ignored beauty of the mundane. Ng will showcase three works, including two kinetic installations that reflect urban characteristics of both Hong Kong and Venice, along with an immersive projection that simulates moonlight accompanied by sounds from Hong Kong nights, celebrating unnoticed night workers. Both artists resonate with the Biennale's theme, 'In Minor Keys,' focusing on subtle gestures and attentive listening. Ng references John Berger's 'Bento's Sketchbook' regarding storytelling related to the unseen. They chose not to address inquiries about nationalism and national pavilions. Hui asserts that Hong Kong art has a universal voice, while Ng quotes Marcel Proust on the multiple realms of art. The presentation is backed by Versace in collaboration with ArtReview.
