Andrew McCarthy Photographs Blood Moon Eclipse from Florida Quality Inn Parking Lot

On August 27, 2026, Andrew McCarthy, an astrophotographer, documented a blood moon eclipse from a parking lot at a Quality Inn in Florida. This near-total lunar eclipse obscured 96% of the moon, casting a red-orange hue as sunlight passed through Earth's atmosphere. The event was observable across North America, Europe, and Africa. Despite the interference from bright streetlights, McCarthy captured thousands of images, resulting in a stunning portrayal of the moon's coloration. He referred to this image as his perfect moment and posted behind-the-scenes content on X the following day, August 28, 2026. McCarthy is active online at cosmicbackground.io and on social media as cosmic_background, with notable works including a 440-megapixel lunar eclipse image and the first shot of the sun's chromosphere taken with a rocket.
