Andrés Barón's Crystal-Image Films at DS Galerie, Paris

DS Galerie in Paris presents a two-film exhibition by Colombian artist Andrés Barón, exploring time, memory, and doubling through a Deleuzian crystal-image lens. The first film, 'El ruido metálico de la luna,' shot in a blue garden in Tolima, Colombia, depicts a young man and an old man (the artist's grandfather) in a non-linear, circular movement, blending past, present, and imagination. The second film, 'you, a circle,' serves as a virtual counterpart, a stripped-down, mineral extraction of the first, featuring fragmented images of taxi graveyards and subconscious apparitions. Sound, including the corneta (a military-funerary instrument) and trumpeter Toshinori Kondo's improvisations, acts as the films' architecture, with gunshots triggering digitally transformed piano notes. Barón's work resists narrative, instead creating sensitive systems and portals between media, time, memory, and dream. The exhibition is accompanied by a text by Tiffany Dornoy Rezaei.
