Ana Sawaia Restores Vilanova Artigas' Casa Muxarabi in São Paulo

Ana Sawaia Arquitetura has completed the restoration and renovation of Casa Muxarabi, a modernist residence originally designed by Vilanova Artigas in 1956. Located in São Paulo, the 411 m² house is organized around a clear structural grid of reinforced concrete. A white rectangular volume raised on pilotis contains two floors. On the upper level, bedrooms face northeast to capture morning light, protected by a continuous balcony with muxarabi screens that control solar heat gain. The ground floor features large glass panels opening directly onto the garden. The project team included Juliana Baumgart, with landscape design by LF Paisagismo, structural engineering by Eng. Paulo Camerini, electrical engineering by Adolfo Baccari, and lighting by Estudio RK. The renovation was curated by Susanna Moreira. Photography by Nelson Kon.
