Ana Laura Aláez Reimagines Her Monumental Installation at MUSAC

Ana Laura Aláez has reinterpreted her 2008 installation "Pabellón de escultura" for a new exhibition at MUSAC in León, Spain, running until October 18, 2026. The work, housed in rooms 5 and 6, consists of thirty-two aluminum sheets forming a single sculpture that evokes an exhibition space violently expelling art rather than sheltering it. Aláez dedicates the piece to her ancestors, emphasizing her origins in a León region where history remains partially invisible. The exhibition, titled "Pabellón de escultura: refugio e intemperie," includes a poster featuring the artist's text on refuge and survival. Outside the installation, scattered sculptures address issues of sculpture and avant-garde movements from the early 20th century. A limited-edition artist poster is available to the public. Aláez's childhood vacations in León inform her artistic trajectory, and the current presentation highlights the search for a safe haven in turbulent times. MUSAC continues its mission to showcase collection works, with Aláez collaborating to adapt the piece to the museum's space.
