Ana Elisa Egreja's First U.S. Solo Show 'The Flight of Color' at Jessica Silverman

Brazilian artist Ana Elisa Egreja presents 15 new oil paintings in her first U.S. solo exhibition, 'The Flight of Color,' at Jessica Silverman in San Francisco from July 16 to September 5, 2026. The works blend Dutch Golden Age still-life traditions with collage-like compositions, incorporating São Paulo's architectural motifs, animals, and foods alongside foreign elements. Egreja uses magical realism to explore migration and cross-cultural exchange, depicting domestic spaces as sites of transformation. Paintings feature tablescapes with fresh produce and packaged snacks, birds as symbols of flight, and window pieces adorned with 24-karat gold leaf and wrought grilles. Notable works include 'Interior with Five Cats at Sunset,' which incorporates a beaded curtain, and 'Interior with a Jaguar and Sun Conure,' featuring an Art Deco sofa. Egreja questions boundaries between private and public space, wildness and domesticity, and international borders.
