Amelia Tavella's Architecture Revives Corsican Heritage and Wins 2024 Mies van der Rohe Recognition

Amelia Tavella, an architect from Corsica who operates in Aix-en-Provence and Paris, has been named a finalist for the 2024 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award. Since establishing her agency in 2007, she has become one of the few female-led architectural firms in France. Her designs prioritize the integrity of their surroundings. Notable projects include the renovation of the Saint-François convent in Corsica and the Château de Nalys in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Vaucluse, set to finish in autumn 2026. Earlier, she completed the École & Espace culturel Edmond Simeoni in Lumio (2023). Tavella, born in Ajaccio in 1977, earned her degree from the École spéciale d'architecture de Paris in 2005 and a Master’s in urban planning from Aix-Marseille University. She has won several accolades, including the Prix Jeune Femme Architecte in 2016 and the Médaille d'architecture-Prix Dejean in 2022.
