ALPI and GamFratesi Create Metaphysical Wood Installation at 3daysofdesign

At 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen, Italian wood company ALPI and Danish-Italian design duo GamFratesi presented 'Piazza Interiore', an immersive installation inspired by Giorgio de Chirico's metaphysical paintings. Hosted at Narrow Creative, the installation transformed ALPIlignum reconstituted wood veneer into a three-dimensional silent landscape, featuring interconnected rooms with architectural fragments, sharp shadows, and suspended perspectives. Rather than offering complete interiors, the space created changing spatial conditions—thresholds and moments—evoking de Chirico's quiet tension. GamFratesi described the environment as 'a three-dimensional silence', where material becomes both architecture and narrative. ALPI, which pioneered industrial production of reconstituted wood veneer, has collaborated with designers like Piero Lissoni (art director since 2015) and works across furniture, interiors, automotive, and shipbuilding. The installation reflected ALPI's philosophy that beauty emerges from rigorous research and precision, not decoration. Vittorio Alpi noted that de Chirico's words on metaphysics resonate with ALPI's approach to wood. The project demonstrated how familiar materials can reveal new spatial, sensory, and emotional dimensions through technological innovation and artisanal expertise.
