Alma Allen Joins Perrotin Gallery Ahead of Venice Biennale Representation

American sculptor Alma Allen has become part of Perrotin's artist roster. Allen, who will represent the United States at the Venice Biennale in May, will present his first exhibition with the French gallery at their Paris location this autumn. The show will feature twenty new pieces. Born in Utah in 1970 and currently residing in Mexico, Allen creates organic-shaped sculptures from materials like stone, wood, and bronze. His artistic process combines robotic tools with manual modeling of small preliminary forms. Growing up in a rural Mormon household in Utah, he developed an early interest in crafting objects from natural materials he found. Largely self-educated in art, Allen relocated to New York City in 1993, initially selling his hand-carved works on sidewalks. His career gained significant momentum after being selected for the 2014 Whitney Biennial, leading to subsequent representation by galleries Blum and Poe and Kasmin, both of which have since closed.
