Alice Pedroletti: Becoming the Instrument of Photography
In an interview with Davide Dal Sasso for Artribune, multidisciplinary artist Alice Pedroletti discusses her practice, which centers on environment, geography, architecture, and geopolitics. Pedroletti, who worked as a commercial photographer for fifteen years and taught at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, founded ATRII Open Archive in 2015 and later co-founded Associazione ATRII with curator Eugenio Martino Nesi, hosted at the Cittadella degli Archivi in Milan. Since 2018, she has been part of the Temporal School of Experimental Geography (UK/ES) and Rabbit Island (USA). In 2020, she won the Italian Council program (IX edition) of the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage. The interview explores her shift from using photography as a tool to becoming its instrument, a theme central to her 2013 exhibition 'Frigido' curated by Cristina Baldacci at the Sala Carroponte dei Frigoriferi Milanesi. Pedroletti discusses the role of the archive, the importance of doubt, and the materiality of photography, referencing influences like Luigi Ghirri and Franco Vaccari. She also touches on works such as 'Metro', '4EVER', and 'Study for a Sculpture', and her interest in creating legacies through her art.
