Alfredo Pirri's Permanent Installation at Four Points by Sheraton Catania

Alfredo Pirri has created a permanent site-specific installation titled 'Passi Aci Castello 2026' in suite 101 of the Four Points by Sheraton Catania, commissioned by the Fondazione OELLE Mediterraneo Antico ETS. The work transforms the hotel room into a reflective space, continuing the hotel's tradition of engaging with contemporary art since 1983, when founders collaborated with artist Agostino Bonalumi. The installation is part of Pirri's ongoing 'Passi' series (started in 2003) and draws inspiration from three Sicilian devotional figures: Sant'Agata, Santa Rosalia, and Santa Lucia. Pirri focuses on their human choice of seclusion rather than martyrdom, presenting a secular ritual of disconnection. The suite features indigo-colored walls, a floor of mirrored blocks forming a blue triangle with feathers (a recurring motif), and three wooden furnishings designed as contemporary writing desks/kneeling benches, each associated with a color: pink for Rosalia, yellow for Lucia, green for Agata. The work was first presented within the exhibition 'Agata on the Road.' The installation is bookable by guests, offering an immersive experience where art and hospitality merge. Ornella Laneri, CEO of the hotel and president of the foundation, stated that art is integral to the concept of hospitality, not merely decorative. Pirri has a long relationship with Sicily, having taught at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Palermo and exhibited in Catania since 2004.
