Alexis Mark creates collaged visual identity for architecture firm Cobe inspired by transit systems

Copenhagen-based design studio Alexis Mark developed a comprehensive rebrand for architecture office Cobe, including a new visual identity and website overhaul. The project began as a focused update but expanded into a full identity system. Alexis Mark co-founder Marie Grønkær noted the collaboration's growth as a positive sign. The studio was drawn to Cobe's integration of urgency and environmental responsibility in their architectural practice, which addresses climate impacts through sustainable methods like avoiding new construction. Collage became central to the identity, serving as both medium and symbol, reflecting Cobe's methodology of repurposing existing elements. Alexis Mark co-founder Martin Bek explained collage allowed for playful expression while maintaining systematic organization. Inspiration came from transit terminals' graphic language, including departure boards and timetables, which co-founder Kristoffer Li described as practical yet rhythmically poetic. Animated elements were influenced by breaking news tickers, creating urgency. The custom typeface AM Kosmos, developed over years with origins from Martin Bek's time at Yale, became a key component, refined with font engineers for exclusive Cobe use. Alexis Mark is expanding into a foundry, developing retail fonts and commissioned typefaces, viewing typography as a strategic brand asset. The identity aims to feel alive and present, using layered compositions resembling architectural plans.
