Alexis Hunter's INVASIVE SPECIES 2 Confronts Belonging at Future Front House, Austin

exhibition · 2026-10-21

The exhibition INVASIVE SPECIES 2, curated by Alexis Hunter and Jacqueline Overby, showcases nine women-identifying artists at Future Front House in Austin until October 31, 2026. Supported by the Elevate grant from the City of Austin, this initiative involves collaborations with a range of cultural contributors. Hunter initiated this series in 2022 following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which inspired her artwork IT'S ALIVE! (2023). Vy Ngo's studio visit sparked discussions on classification and power dynamics. The exhibition explores themes such as immigration, motherhood, race, queerness, disability, ecology, and healing, drawing connections to Judy Chicago's The Dinner Party. Featured works include Kate Gonda's GAIATOP (2026) and The Great Softening (2026). A promotional video with dancer Kelsey Oliver is available, and tactile graphics for visually impaired audiences are being developed. Interview by Sofia Penny; photos by Tova Katzman.
