Alex Katz donates seven works to Kunsthalle Tübingen

US artist Alex Katz has donated seven prints to Kunsthalle Tübingen, a gift that will permanently enter the museum's collection after the current exhibition "Alex Katz. Dancing with Reality" closes on September 13. The donation includes works such as "Nicole" (2018), "Coca-Cola Girl 5" (2019), and "Purple Wind" (2017). Museum director and curator Nicole Fritz called the gift "very generous," noting it complements the museum's holdings from the 1960s and 1970s and will allow future presentations of Katz's work. The exhibition, developed in close collaboration with the artist, focuses on his late oeuvre and features 40 large-format works, 15 of which come directly from Katz's studio. Two works, "Days End 1" (1998) and "Tree 12" (2020), are shown in Europe for the first time. Katz, born in New York in 1927, is a key figure in postwar American art, known for his stylized portraits and landscapes with flat, clearly contoured imagery.
