Alex Eala: Tennis Star's Rise Sparks Filipino Tennis Boom

Alex Eala, the 21-year-old Filipino tennis sensation ranked 18th in the world, has become a national icon, drawing sold-out crowds and sparking a tennis boom in the Philippines. At the Canadian Open in Toronto, home to a large Filipino diaspora, her night matches attracted over 10,000 fans each, with Philippine flags and food vendors adding to the atmosphere. Eala's breakthrough came at the 2022 US Open, where she won the girls' singles title, becoming the first Filipino Grand Slam champion.
