Alessandro Giannì's Ceramic Sculptures in Naples Crypt

Alessandro Giannì (Rome, 1989) presents 'Eco dal confine' in the crypt of the 17th-century Church of Santa Maria delle Anime del Purgatorio ad Arco in Naples. The site-specific installation, curated with a critical text by Chiara Pirozzi and coordination by Vittoria Magrì, features ten ceramic sculptures placed on a corten table. The works mimic metal but are actually fragile ceramic, exploring themes of illusion, memory, and the boundary between life and death. The crypt, known for housing 'anime pezzentelle' (anonymous skulls venerated in a folk cult), provides a liminal space. Giannì uses casts of ancient faces, repeated and transformed, evoking classical fragments and Canova's processions. The exhibition is under the patronage of the Municipality of Naples and the Matronage of Fondazione Donnaregina per le arti contemporanee – Museo Madre.
