Alessandra Mammì Remembers Mario Pieroni, the Gallerist Behind Zerynthia

other · 2026-10-21

Alessandra Mammì honors the late Mario Pieroni, a Roman gallerist and co-founder of Zerynthia. She highlights "il libro di Zerynthia," a 500-page book he collaborated on with Dora Stiefelmeier in 2020. In the early 1990s, Pieroni decided to close his gallery on Via Panisperna and instead presented a live project at the Arco fair in February 1992. Zerynthia, named after a butterfly, organized exhibitions throughout Lazio and hosted a festival at the Rapolano quarries. Additional projects included RAM (Radio Arte Mobile) and No Man's Land, an art park in Abruzzo. Mammì remarks that "una cosa alla Pieroni" represents significant events, with Stiefelmeier as his collaborator. The book features prominent figures like Hans Ulrich Obrist and Gerhard Richter.
