Aldara Vázquez Explores Body and Weaving in 'La medida que compone' at Espacio Peculiar
Espacio Peculiar opens its artistic season with 'La medida que compone', the first solo exhibition in A Coruña by Vigo-born artist Aldara Vázquez, curated by Pilar Romero. The show, on view until 7 November 2026, is presented at Espacio Peculiar in the Mercado Municipal de Perillo, Oleiros – A Coruña. Vázquez builds her textile pieces from a millennia-old craft practice, weaving on a loom, to examine the relationship between body, matter and creation. The works are constructed using the distances that separate different parts of the body; these measurements, together with the worked lines and fibers, transfer bodily movements and rhythms into each piece, making the body a fundamental part of the work. The creative process is closely tied to the operation of the loom, a tool that demands coordinated action of arms and legs, constant attention, technical knowledge and a slow working rhythm. Vázquez focuses on the intersection of art and craft, incorporating traditional techniques, procedures and knowledge into contemporary artistic creation. Her practice is characterized by the use of artisanal textile processes, involving manual, slow and unhurried creation. Her career has been recognized with various prizes and distinctions. 'La medida que compone' marks her first individual show in A Coruña, following exhibitions in Santiago de Compostela, Madrid, Bilbao and Barcelona.
