Alan Gignoux's 'Homeland Lost' captures Palestinian displacement

At P21 Gallery in London, documentary photographer Alan Gignoux presents 'Homeland Lost,' a series of black-and-white portraits of Palestinian refugees and the ruined sites of their former homes. The subjects were displaced during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war (the Nakba) or are their descendants, now living in camps in Jordan, Lebanon, the West Bank, and Gaza. The photographs contrast the barren present with eyewitness accounts of past abundance—olives, grains, figs, carob, grapes. Gignoux's subjects gaze back with defiance, their faces etched with loss. The exhibition runs at P21 Gallery, London.
