Akris Spring/Summer 2026 Draws on Leon Polk Smith's Geometric Abstraction

Akris creative director Albert Kriemler has designed the Spring/Summer 2026 collection inspired by the work of American hard-edge abstractionist Leon Polk Smith. The collection emphasizes line, color, and form, translating Smith's radical simplicity and 'color correspondences' into garments that balance precision with emotion. Presented at Paris Fashion Week, the collection features sculptural coats, fluid dresses, drape-fringe knit inspired by Smith's curvilinear forms, and the Tuxedo Duo jacket. Kriemler revisited the house's trapezoid motif, appearing in embroidery across dresses and gowns. Accessories include the Alice bag in horsehair and satin with graphic contrast in saturated orange, lapis blue, and sunlit yellow. Kriemler visited Smith's 2023 exhibition at Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich, where he was struck by the work 'Seven Involvements in One.' The designer emphasizes that the collaboration is about essence, not minimalism, and involves deep engagement with Smith's philosophy rather than literal translation.
