Aistė Stancikaitė's Ambiguous Narratives in Paint

Lithuanian artist Aistė Stancikaitė, based in Berlin, creates photorealistic paintings that explore human experience through cropped, ambiguous compositions. Her solo show 'where (no)one is' ran at ATM Gallery in New York in late 2023. Works like 'Some Time We Walk Together' depict gloved hands joined by finger cuffs, leaving narratives open-ended. Stancikaitė uses photography to create references, building up color in thin layers. Her palette has expanded from monochromatic reds and pinks to include purples and blues. In 'Waiting, Still II,' she subverts Venus depictions by obscuring gender. She plans a residency at The Cabin in Los Angeles, a solo show there, a residency in London in 2024, and a solo show in Berlin.
