Agostino Iacurci's 'Arcipelago Botanico' Transforms Portrait Milano's Piazza

Agostino Iacurci's site-specific installation 'Arcipelago Botanico' opened at Portrait Milano's Piazza, running until August 31, 2026. Curated by Valentina Ciarallo, the work features eight monumental sculptures of imaginary plants distributed across the courtyard of the former Archbishop's Seminary. Iacurci studied the site's history, including a historical lithograph of the courtyard with palms, shrubs, and water features, to create a dreamlike landscape blending nature and imagination. The installation is part of a green requalification project initiated in 2022 with botanist Vittorio Peretto, integrating sculptures with existing camphor, magnolia, and camellia trees within the Renaissance architecture. Iacurci's practice spans painting, muralism, sculpture, and installation, known for synthetic silhouettes and bold color contrasts—here fuchsia, green, purple, and orange. The project is supported by GRAZIA, which will host a temporary newsstand on July 22-23. Portrait Milano's summer program also includes concerts, performances, and live music.
