Adobe home in Sierra Madre reborn as midcentury-inspired California hacienda

In Sierra Madre, California, a 1947 adobe residence at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains has been reimagined as a contemporary California hacienda by designer Kirsten Blazek of A1000XBetter. Following a fire that ravaged most of the building, only the original adobe brick wall remained intact. Blazek opted to retain the original layout, incorporating a kitchen, primary suite, and family room while keeping the original hallway windows. The color scheme features earthy tones from Dunn-Edwards paints, including an exterior hue named 'Wild Horses,' reflecting the nearby landscape. The interiors showcase midcentury furnishings from MidcenturyLA, Amsterdam Modern, and Lawson-Fenning, combined with Native American and western art from Blazek's collection. Additional warmth is provided by rugs from Pampa and Salam Hello and drapery by Zak and Fox. The dining room fireplace was refreshed with tiles from Lofa Tile, accompanied by a framed print from artist Mark Maggiori. This renovation successfully merges the preservation of the adobe's craftsmanship with midcentury modern aesthetics.
