ACCA Melbourne Exhibition Explores Loneliness Through Art and Internet Culture

The Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) in Melbourne has opened 'Are you lonely tonight? I’m so lonesome I could cry', a group exhibition curated by Myles Russell-Cook and Sophie Prince. Featuring 11 artists including Lucy Liu, Polly Borland, Gideon Appah, Seth Brown, and Kayla Mattes, the show examines the loneliness epidemic through works that blend tragedy and comedy. Highlights include Patrick Pound's 'The Museum of Loneliness', a collection of found objects; Kayla Mattes' seven-meter hand-woven textile 'Lonely Planet', which took a year to complete; and Melissa Nguyen's 'A letter to my mother; A letter to your mother', exploring her mother's refugee experience. The exhibition is the first in a series on 'art and emotion', with future shows on joy and rage planned.
