Aboard T4 Travel Trailer: Modernist Architecture Meets Electric Mobility

The California-based company Aboard has unveiled the T4, a forthcoming travel trailer that merges modernist architectural principles with an electrified platform. Designed to be towed by vehicles like the Rivian R1T, the T4 features an onboard range extender and batteries that not only sustain off-grid stays but also assist in carrying the trailer's weight, thereby maximizing the towing vehicle's range and economy. The interior draws heavily from contemporary California architecture, with extensive glazing, skylights, and a floor-to-ceiling rear panel that opens to the outdoors. The design team describes the T4 as '70% architecture, 30% automotive,' evident in its clean lines, flush doors and windows, concealed front storage, and powered twin axle, which give it a futuristic, nautical aesthetic. Inside, timber accents in the bathroom, white walls, and free-standing furniture reinforce the architectural feel. The layout includes a dinette and lounge that convert into queen beds, with the galley and bathroom centrally placed. The 41kWh battery pairs with a range extender, providing 120V and 240V outlets for external connections and EV charging. The four-berth trailer measures 25 feet long, eight feet wide, and weighs up to 7,500lbs. Additional features include a powered awning, a shower accessible via a separate door for use as a mudroom, an induction cooktop, and a heat pump system for heating and cooling. The T4 is expected to start shipping in 2027.
