Abigail Lazkoz Brings «Cordero, mitad gato, casi perro» to Azkuna Zentroa in Bilbao

Abigail Lazkoz will showcase her work «Cordero, mitad gato, casi perro» at the Gure Artea prize in the Basque Country, taking place at Azkuna Zentroa in Bilbao from 21 October 2026 to 17 January 2027. Curated by Yara Sonseca and co-produced with Domus Artium, this exhibition builds upon her earlier piece «Tengo un animal singular». It delves into the intricacies of alterity, emphasizing the complexity of existence over hybrid forms. Key themes include the tension between individual and collective identities and the remnants of history. New sculptures from the Rokorekubi series draw on diverse cultural influences, while earlier works, such as the mural Dresde (2009), relate to WWII and Kurt Vonnegut. The display also features black-and-white installations that engage with comics and political narratives, characterized by recurring black grids and yellow accents.
