Abidjan Art Week Expands with Night Gallery Tours and International Artists

The third edition of Abidjan art week took place from last Tuesday to Sunday, featuring extended hours at various galleries and museums, highlighted by the Night of the Galleries, where venues remained open until midnight. Participating locations included La Rotonde des Arts and the Adama Toungara Museum of Contemporary Cultures (MuCAT). Founder Yacouba Konaté underscored the importance of making art accessible. This year saw a significant increase in participating galleries, showcasing artists from Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Mali. The event paid tribute to art historian Simone Guirandou-N'Diaye. Key highlights included Ouattara Watts' solo show at Galerie Cécile Fakhoury and MuCAT's Murmures d'Archives. The Night of the Galleries initiative commenced in January 2024, coinciding with a rise in local art collectors as the city heals from previous civil conflicts.
