Abejas Sports and Recreation Center in Tijuana by border arquitectos

The Abejas Sports and Recreation Center, designed by border arquitectos, has been completed in Tijuana, Mexico, in 2024. The project, covering an area of 60,000 square meters, aims to improve everyday life in an underserved neighborhood characterized by rapid urban growth and limited public infrastructure. The center provides a dedicated space for sports, recreation, and community activities, addressing the need for quality public amenities. The architecture explores the role of design in fostering social well-being. The lead architects are Oficina Border Arquitectos S.A.S de C.V. and Proyectos y Construcciones Velisa, S. de R.L. de C.V., with the latter also serving as the lead team. The design team is Border Arquitectos, while structural engineering was provided by ATRIUS Ingeniería Estructural, electrical engineering by INCE Ingeniería y Construcciones Electromecánicas de Tijuana, and environmental sustainability consulting by Nacion Verde A.C. The project utilized cement from Cemex. Photographs were taken by Rodolfo Lopez Castillo, and the project was curated by Valentina Díaz.
