Abandoned Lisbon mall reborn as Oriente Green Campus innovation hub

In Lisbon's Parque das Nações, an unused shopping mall has been repurposed into the Oriente Green Campus, an innovative center featuring technology, academic, and laboratory facilities. This initiative, spearheaded by KPF and Saraiva+Associados (S+A), with landscape architecture by LJ-Group, marks Lisbon's inaugural LEED and WELL Platinum development. After construction halted in 2012, the mall remained vacant. The revamped building spans 452,000 square feet, preserving 91 percent of its original structure while incorporating an additional 20,500 square feet of green space. Amenities include a rooftop that encourages walking, an auditorium, a cafeteria, and a gym, with energy efficiency enhanced by passive shading and PV panels. Multiusos Oriente FIIF financed the project, which features key tenants like Richemont, Piaget, and Universidade Europeia.
