Abandoned Ancona Lighthouse to House Over 100 Artists
Gino Gianuizzi, who established the Bologna-based art venue neon (1981-2011) and teaches at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna, has obtained a six-year lease from the Agenzia del Demanio for the Faro sul Colle dei Cappuccini in Ancona, Italy. This lighthouse, which has been operational since 1860, is located within the Parco del Cardeto. The concession is part of Ancona's initiative to become the Capitale italiana della Cultura 2028. Gianuizzi's vision includes over one hundred artists designing flags around the lighthouse in September-October 2026, along with workshops, guided tours, and film screenings. After being abandoned for 25 years, minimal restoration occurred in the early 2000s, with cleanup set to start this autumn and full programming anticipated next spring.
