AART Wins Competition for Subterranean Royal Treasury at Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen
The international competition for Rigets Skatkammer (The Royal Treasury) has been won by the Danish architecture firm AART. This project involves a 1,300-square-meter underground extension for the museum located at Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen. Collaborating with VEGA Landskab, Fogh & Følner, and Artelia, the design features 600 square meters of exhibition space situated beneath the moat, which will restore the water surrounding the Renaissance castle established by Christian IV. Aimed at improving visitor amenities for the Danish Royal Collection, which attracts over 500,000 visitors each year, the proposal incorporates pathways to the castle and the underground museum, utilizing natural materials for a tactile experience. The Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces commissioned the project, with backing from the A.P. Møller Foundation and others.
