Aarau Rave Organizer Speaks Out: Security Guards Prevented Worse After Fatal Shooting

Olivier Grein, co-founder and CEO of Urban Agency Events AG, which organized the techno party in Aarau where a fatal shooting occurred, has spoken publicly for the first time. The shooting took place after the party ended, resulting in one death and several injuries. Grein was on holiday in Barcelona when he received a WhatsApp from his production manager about the attack. He immediately cut his holiday short to support his team and cooperate with authorities. Grein praised the security firm for breaking open emergency exits during the shooting, allowing people to flee, and stated that their selfless behavior prevented worse outcomes. He expressed that the event was a violent crime unprecedented in the canton of Aargau. Grein declined to speculate on the motive, noting police are considering a settling of scores, a terrorist attack, or a rampage. He argued that the security of large events is a political issue, suggesting that data and personality protection currently take precedence over crime prevention. The company has canceled its remaining outdoor event in Wettingen, ending the festival season early, but plans to continue next year. No additional measures are planned for their Zurich clubs, as Grein believes it would be an overreaction.
