AAA Office's Primary School in Parma Features Vertical Pillars and Timber Structure

AAA office has completed a primary school in Sissa Trecasali, Parma, Italy, positioned between the urban edge and the agricultural landscape. The two-story school accommodates 250 students with ten classrooms, six laboratories, a 90-seat cafeteria, and a 700-sqm gymnasium. The building is organized into three volumes for classrooms, gym, and cafeteria. Facades feature vertical strip windows that reference the rhythm of trees and vineyards. The structural system uses prefabricated cross-laminated timber panels and timber columns on an insulated concrete slab, with a 60-cm module coordinating structure and cladding. Steel trellises support climbing vegetation for shading. Interior finishes are white with pastel accents, designed to display student work. Lead architects are Lucio Serpagli, Italo Jemmi, and Alessandro Gattara.
