A Kassen's 'Public Domain' at Skissernas Museum Merges Street Infrastructure with Sculpture

The Danish artist group A Kassen (Christian Bretton-Meyer, Morten Steen Hebsgaard, Søren Petersen, Tommy Petersen) presents 'Public Domain,' their first major exhibition in Sweden, at Skissernas Museum in Lund. The show begins outside with manhole covers interlocking like gears in the grass, and includes excavated sculptures from the museum's collection. Inside, a lamppost hangs horizontally from the foajé ceiling, its cast-iron base swaying—a piece recently dug up from Lund streets. Upstairs, K G Bejemark's 'Form i former' (1975) sits on a grass mound, while Annika Svenbro's inverted concrete legs 'Utan titel' (1991) appear vulnerable indoors. The exhibition mixes public sculptures with road infrastructure like barriers and poles, as if parts of Lund were sucked up and spat out. A worn park bench, elevated on its excavated foundation, faces a wall. On walls hang extreme close-ups of pixelated faces from digital map services' street views, titled 'Blurring Art and Life' (2026). A clock mechanism is mounted so its hands protrude into the air, running accurately. The group, working since 2005, has previously created works like 'Flip façade' (2010) and 'Drip' (2006). The exhibition runs through 2026.
