85-Year-Old Sue Kreitzman Lives Inside Her Own Art Installation in London

Sue Kreitzman, an 85-year-old self-taught artist originally from New York, has transformed her Mile End house into a vibrant, floor-to-ceiling art installation filled with pictures, sculptures, and neck shrines. After careers as a teacher, cookbook author, and TV chef, she began drawing at age 58 and never looked back. Her home, curated by Jaime Freestone, serves as a safe space for LGBT individuals and creatives. Kreitzman rarely wears beige, preferring colorful attire and custom neck shrines made in her back garden workshop. She does not sell her work but swaps pieces with friends. The house includes a Museum Shed and 'goddess phones' for mystical connections. Regular visitors include crochet artist Elizabeth Joseph and French artist Anne-Sophie Cochevelou, who consider Kreitzman a mentor. Kreitzman describes herself as obsessive, bonkers, and extremely colorful, working outside the mainstream without formal training.
