6.89 sqm Rotterdam apartment wins Architectenweb Awards 2024
Beatriz Ramo and Bernd Upmeyer won the Interior Design prize at the Dutch Architectenweb Awards 2024 for their 6.89-square-meter pied-à-terre in Rotterdam. The project, named Cabanon, makes double reference to Le Corbusier: in its name and in using the architects' own body measurements as a module. Located in the attic of a 1950s building, the design varies ceiling heights to create a 3D puzzle accommodating a living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom with two infrared saunas, and a whirlpool tub. Ramo founded Star strategies + architecture in 2006; Upmeyer founded Board (Bureau of Architecture Research and Design) in 2005. Upmeyer also edits Monu – Magazine on Urbanism and authored Binational Urbanism – On the Road to Paradise.
