59th Carnegie International Review: If the word we

The 59th Carnegie International, titled If the word we, is on view at Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, through 3 January 2027. Featuring 61 artists from around the world, the exhibition broadly addresses notions of community and connection. Many works explore land, indigeneity, dislocation, and emplacement. Highlights include Jasleen Kaur's Supra, a red-carpeted room with a miniature glass reproduction of the demolished Babri Masjid mosque and devotional music; Hong Lee Hyunsook's 11-metre frottage of Bukhan Mountain's Insu Peak; Dineo Seshee Bopape's installation with earthy walls and video projections; and asinnajaq's Inuit sleds carrying emergency blankets wrapped in photographs of water and vegetation, brought from Inukjuak. Some works, like Alia Farid's CGI animation and Camara Taylor's installation, rely heavily on didactics to connect to specific sites. G.
