50 Years of Print: Harvey Lloyd Screens' Legacy Celebrated in Newhaven Exhibition

The exhibition '50 Years of Print' at Marine Workshops in Newhaven, curated by Owen Gildersleeve, celebrates the archive of Harvey Lloyd Screens, a screen print studio in East Sussex. Founded in 1976, the studio shifted from commercial work for brands like Mastercard and Body Shop to artist collaborations after graphic artist Anthony Burrill discovered them via Yellow Pages in the late 2000s. Burrill's beer mat project, turned down by other printers, sparked a long-term partnership. Over five decades, Harvey Lloyd has worked with artists including Orla Kiely, Mr Bingo, Oliver Jeffers, Adrian Johnston, and Mr Doodle, experimenting with materials like iron filings for rusting prints and invisible inks. The exhibition, running until 27 June 2026, features nearly 300 prints from the archive, showcasing the studio's collaborative ethos. Printmakers Steve Fachiri and Tracey Day, who have worked together for 38 years, emphasize their openness to experimentation and direct artist collaboration. Gildersleeve, who previously worked with them on his 2023 show 'Like No Other', notes the timeless graphic sensibility of the prints. The studio has no plans to expand, preferring to maintain their current practice.
