37th Bienal de São Paulo Curatorial Team Announced
The Fundação Bienal de São Paulo has announced the curatorial team for the 37th Bienal de São Paulo, scheduled for September 2027. Following the earlier appointment of Brazilian curators Amanda Carneiro and Raphael Fonseca as chief curators, the team now includes Ana Salazar Herrera, Léuli Eshrāghi, Rado Ištok, Ryan Inouye, and Yina Jiménez Suriel, with curatorial assistants Amanda Tavares and Mayara Carvalho. The group brings diverse international experience from Latin America to Oceania. Chief curators Carneiro and Fonseca emphasized their shared interest in collaborative practice and commitment to artists. Andrea Pinheiro, president of the foundation, highlighted the team's connection to central contemporary themes. Each curator has significant credentials: Herrera founded Museum for the Displaced and worked at Diriyah Biennale Foundation; Eshrāghi expanded the collection of Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal; Ištok is curator at National Gallery Prague; Inouye is cocurator of the 59th Carnegie International; Jiménez Suriel is codirector of Sequences Biennial and curator for TBA21–Academy. Assistants Tavares and Carvalho have backgrounds in research, curation, and education in Brazilian institutions.
